hope for Bastille

The first martyrs of the French Revolution...

These 16 Carmelite nuns of Compeigne were guillotined for "crimes against the state" after kneeling and chanting the Veni Creator.

Still to be canonised, they need our prayers ... and we need theirs.

I like Roman Christendom's point on it.

Lovely, is it your birthday on the 16th? It's my hubby's on that day, and he always likes to give honour to Our Lady of Mount Carmel before anything else.

Remember the French Revolution was an Enlightenment project as was the USA.

Frances Yates' book the Rosicrucian Enlightenment is interesting as was a speech by one of the cardinals (Dias?) referring to well known secret organisations which sounds initially like an oxymoron.
